NYFW Day 4 and 6 OOTD

by Laura Perkins

As I was prepping for New York Fashion Week, I couldn't help but think of Sunday Ibok. I know he would have come over to help me pick out outfits. I can only imagine he would have been there with me everyday at Lincoln Center, joining me in all the amazing street style people watching. And the fashion shows...I can only dream what it would have been like for us to have gone together and drool over all the runway looks. As much as I wish I could have had him at my side last week, I took moments during all the excitement to pause and picture him looking over me....and smiling.

I'm pretty sure he would have also said, "Hot shoes!"

I was so honored to be asked to host a street style video at New York Fashion Week for Loehmann's. They are relaunching their brand and wanted to be a part of all the fun that goes on during Fashion Week. I'll be honest, this was my first time hosting a video so beyond the obvious nerves, I had the hardest time figuring out what to wear?! After much thought, I went with this fitted faux leather dress with a high slit. A lot of people thought it was black but it's actually a really cool dark green color which is great for fall! I like to call it my Matrix dress. :) (insert husband laughing at me).

Okay, but how fabulous are these heels?! Definitely a statement shoe. I'm obsessed with these gems and excited to pair them with jeans soon.

I know what some of you might be thinking, that's her 3rd graphic tee this week?! Okay, you're right. I'll admit I'm borderline obsessed but this might have been one of my favorite outfits from NYFW. First of all this New York t-shirt makes me smile. It's 7 years old and I'm pretty sure I got it for $1 during the VH1 wardrobe sale from my days working in TV. And what better time to wear a NY shirt than during New York Fashion Week?! I love this white pleated midi skirt and didn't let the fact that it was September 9th stop me. Here's a tip for wearing white after Labor Day: Make sure to pair it with the right fall accessories, like a jacket and closed toe heels. This jean jacket is probably one of the best things I own. I'll give you three reasons why: 1) It's literally 10 years old (girls, a fitted denim jacket will never go out of style) 2) Wearing it over your shoulders gives you a very polished, modern look while still keeping things casual and 3) I created a new way to wear old articles of clothing! Woo-hoo! Complete this style with some fun heels and a sleek crossbody bag (btw this bag cost me $10 at Old Navy!! Score!)

NYFW Day 1. You guys know I'm a big fan of pairing something dressy with a piece that's casual. I think it gives a little edge to a feminine style. For this outfit, I dressed down these trouser pants and fancy statement necklace with an everyday cotton tank and ankle strap pointed toe flats. I'm obsessed with these shoes, by the way. They make my feet happy but still give that polished put-together look. I also wear this necklace all the time! Ebay Fashion even photographed me in it for their New York Fashion Week Shop Street Style! The key to finding a great statement necklace is to look for one that is neutral enough to wear with multiple outfits and one that can take you into each season.

NYFW Day 2: Something I love about New York Fashion Week is you can be a little more daring with your outfit choices. So I decided to be bold with my color and patterns for this look. If you couldn't tell from my previous posts, I really like pairing graphic tees with a dressy midi skirt (spoiler alert: there's more to come!). For this day, I thought I'd change it up and do a fitted pencil skirt that goes below my knee with a high slit (very popular trend right now). It's girlie sophisticated meets rocker chic! Since leopard is considered a neutral, I can get away with wearing these heels and not looking like I got dressed in the dark! And my lipstick color is Chaud by Mac (new fav with a bright orange tint) which matches the heart in my Austin shirt! Man, you'd think I was from Texas, I love this shirt so much! I chose to tie this tank into a crop top (it was 90 degrees that day!) but you could also opt for a more conservative style and tuck it in.

NYFW Day 3: For this look, I wanted to have fun mix and matching patterns, textures and colors. I went with a lace green pencil skirt paired with a graphic t-shirt. It was another scorcher of a day so I tied the tee into a crop top (but I would totally tuck this in for a more modest, business style). I was so excited about these shoes I got on clearance at DSW (woo hoo!) and liked how the tan leather tied in with the tortoise shell necklace. I opted for a pop of color with a plum crossbody bag (my favorite type of purse right now!). Since the bag is so small, I think this added color works really well. Some people might say I should have matched my lipstick to my plum bag but you know what, I'm all about breaking the rules. :)
