Hey guys! I wanted to share this outfit I wore during New York Fashion Week for one of the shows I attended. I apologize for the delay (it's been a bit of a difficult month with some family stuff going on. But God is good and getting us through it. Will maybe share more about all of that at another time.) In the meantime, appreciate your prayers.

When I was deciding what to wear to NYFW, I was feeling very Americana (a big trend we've been seeing on the runways - think denim on denim, bandanas, a little western/cowgirl, all-American looks). So last spring, I fell in love with this wide leg cropped denim jumpsuit I saw in the Anthropologie catalog (when my obsession with all things denim started) but thought it was a little pricey for my budget. Whenever I'd go in to check the sale rack, I always kept a look out to see if this jumpsuit would magically appear. Well one day in early September, it did!! It was the only one left (and in my size! yippee!). I was so excited to try it on. I had been looking for some hi rise wide leg cropped jeans for awhile now but hadn't found any that I really loved...until this jumpsuit. And it was 75% off during Labor Day weekend!! Woo hoo! I felt like this would be a really fun and different piece for my closet. I wasn't sure how much I'd get to wear it immediately with the season ending but it's been surprisingly warm in NYC this month so I've actually gotten a few good wears out of it. And will definitely be rocking it next spring/summer. So I'd say I'm pretty proud of this purchase! While I don't see this jumpsuit online anymore at Anthro, fear not b/c it is available on Poshmark and Ebay for a discounted price. Also - here are some cute jumpsuits that Anthro does have available in stores and online. They also have some super cute hi rise wide leg jeans at Anthro right now; this style looks almost identical to the Americana wash (which I love!!) and looks like a very similar fit to my jumpsuit. The key for styling a hi rise wide leg pant is to wear a fitted blouse (or crop top) to show off your waist. While the top of my jumpsuit is flowy, I think the reason it works is because it cuts off right at my waist, giving the illusion of a smaller waist.

Another trend I would definitely recommend trying is a bandana scarf. I bought this one from Madewell in two colors (mustard yellow or "Vintage Gold" and a faded red or "Spiced Rose."). You can wear them all different ways (I like to tie them in my hair whether it's down or up...even better for a bad hair day and I instantly feel cuter!) or wrap them around my neck (once or twice to change up the look). You can also tie them on your purse. It's such a cheap way to add a lot of style to your outfit. They're only $9.99! At first I wasn't sure if I could pull it off around my neck, but now I love it! I know I say this a lot, but whenever you feel like you can't pull something off, just give it a try! You never know how great it might look on you. Same thing with this jumpsuit! Be bold guys, take risks! It pays off. :)

Jewelry Style - These threader earrings are some of my favorite statement earrings from Madewell (only $28) and have become my go-to choice even for everyday outfits. You can change the length since it threads through your ear and instantly gives you that rocker chic look.

The "New" Denim Top

by Laura Perkins

Denim is having a moment. And I kind of can't get enough of it.  I'm not just talking about jeans (although cropped wide leg and vintage hi rise, I see you!...and am currently crushing), but denim tops, skirts, jumpsuits, jackets and dresses have been a huge trend this spring that I'm really into. I will say that I'm still on the hunt for a denim dress. (Whenever I see one, I instantly think of my mom who always loved them and would make me try one on whenever she took me shopping as a teenager. Or she wouldn't buy me anything! Hah. That was her rule. And a pretty great one, thinking back on it. Emmy, if you're reading this one day, I will probably do the same thing to you! Lol). Call it the late 90's comeback, but denim is actually really cute. I'm a fan. Today, however, I wanted to focus on denim tops. I'm sure we all have a button up chambray shirt from many years ago that became a closet staple but that's not what I'm referring to. What I'm calling the "new" denim top can be any shade of denim (I'm really digging the medium washes right now which have that 70's vibe) and you can try it in many fun styles like off the shoulder, ruffles, embroidery, bell sleeves or knotted details (like what I'm wearing in these pics). Rock your denim with some low block heels and you've got that cool girl look. Denim goes with almost anything. If you're really adventurous, try denim on denim! Hey, it's a thing! I am so sorry to say that this top is unfortunately out of stock at Madewell but here are some super chic denim options available at Madewell, Anthropologie  and J.Crew (three of my favorite stores).

Not Your Mom's High Waisted Jeans

by Laura Perkins

You guys...I'm back! Without going into about a million excuses of why I took a 6 month hiatus and have been focusing on taking care of my daughter, Emmy, full time, I'm really excited to make a return to Your Sunday Best. Something I have always loved doing and have recently been inspired to get things started again. Thank you to all of you who reached out and encouraged me to get back on the blog, sharing how much you missed it. That really meant a lot! I love my baby girl in ways that words can't express and while truthfully it hasn't always been easy, it has been my greatest joy. One of my best girlfriends told me recently that when you become a mom, don't let go of the things that make you you. It's easy to do that when you're putting your child before yourself but that statement really challenged me. I love writing about fashion and sharing styling tips. That's me. So I'm not going to let go of it. Just...give me an extra cup of coffee! :)

I think I struggled with what my first post would be, setting too high of expectations for myself (that's the perfectionist in me!) and not knowing if I should share stories of mom life or go back to a fashion piece. While I could go on and on about what motherhood has taught me, I decided that this thing started with fashion so that's what I'll come back to. Now, I'm not gonna lie - I've stayed in my pajamas most days and haven't left the house. True story. Yeah, I know, I need to work on that. Maybe it's the nice weather around the corner but I'm excited for spring! And spring clothes! While it's still too early to pull out your dresses and skirts (well unless you live in Fl....sigh!) here's a denim look that will put you in a good mood. Or at least it does for me! Let's face it - it's March. We all need a little fashion pick me up.

High-waisted jeans, a turtleneck and low block heels. Wow- if you would have told me a few years ago that I'd be rocking this outfit, I would have probably laughed in your face. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the 90's comeback but "Mom" jeans as many call them, have never been something I was a fan of. Until now. Well...the new version of them that is. I realized that whenever I would try on these cute tops in the dressing room, they were always too short when paired with my everyday skinny jeans. But then I tried on this high-rise pair and it was a game changer. Suddenly I felt skinnier and those cute tops in the store actually fit the way they were supposed to. These jeans honestly just felt really natural on me and not like I was in a costume. I definitely recommend you all giving high-rise jeans a shot. And for those who question it, maybe don't think of them as high-waisted but rather higher waisted. I mean, seriously, we've been wearing skinny jeans for over a decade now - it's time to change it up, even if it's just a little bit.

To show off the high-waisted look, I recommend either a flowy cropped top or tucking in your shirt (front tuck or all the way). Also this turtleneck is only $6.99!!! What!?! Crazytown, I know! P.S. J. Crew also has one just like it! Finish the look with some low block heels. In my industry, we call this the "market shoe," the comfy yet on-trend heel you can get around town in and stand all day in at appointments. Or the weekender brunch shoe that doesn't make you look like you're trying too hard. This style is far from "granny," don't you think?! I always laugh when things that used to be considered super dorky are all of a sudden cool again. Timing is key but also, make sure the look is still flattering on you. After all, you're the one wearing them so you need to feel confident!

DIY Distressed Jeans

by Laura Perkins

Jeans: Abercrombie (old)  ||  T-shirt: Old Navy  ||  Shoes: Madewell

When I see DIY, I usually think to myself, that's really cool but I don't think I have time for this "Do It Yourself" craft. Well if you can relate, don't be scared by this post! You can do it! And if you're on a budget, like me, you sometimes have to choose a DIY version to get the trend on a dime! In 2004 I used to absolutely love these ripped Abercrombie jeans (yes, in college I wore all Abercrombie all the time!). So I decided to hold onto them...for 10 years! Recently, I wanted to figure out a way I could wear them again as the ever-so-trendy distressed boyfriend jean. But the outdated sown in capri length was holding me back. My only option was to cut out the cuffed hem. I'll admit I was nervous at first but once I made the cut, I was so happy! I had the length I wanted to then roll them up "boyfriend jean style."

My next DIY creation was turning an old pair of skinny jeans into an edgier ripped style (specifically with a hole in the knee) that we're seeing in all the stores. I took these black skinny jeans that are maybe 4 years old and decided to cut about half an inch (it widens once it's on) at the top of my knee. I'll admit I google imaged "ripped black skinny jeans" and "skinny jeans with hole in the knee" before I got started! I was debating between a hole on one knee or two (I've seen it done both ways) but decided for now to just do one hole/one knee. Who knows, maybe I'll do the other side!? Note: Make sure to try them on first and make a slit so you know exactly where to cut. My advice is to start out smaller, try them on again and then see if you'd rather make the hole bigger. The good news is you can't really mess it up. All distressed jeans are unique. Plus it takes about 2 seconds and now you've completely updated your denim look!
