You guys! It's officially been 1 year since I started my blog! I can't believe it. I'm so grateful for all of you who have encouraged and supported me through this journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Wow, a lot has changed in a year. And some things have stayed the same...like I still love to rock a midi skirt and crop top! :) So I thought why not celebrate my first birthday with one of my favorite looks!?

You know, you really can't go wrong with black and white. It will always be a classic look. To give this timeless combo a modern twist, opt for bold prints like graphics or florals. And try a crop top! Come on! It's about time! Like I said on my very first blog post, you just need to show a sliver of skin. And if done right, you can wear this look to work or church! (Yes, I said it!) So I found this midi skirt at Zara a few months back and immediately fell in love with the design. I thought it looked like a piece of art. This might sound like a no-brainer but make sure you really love a print before you try it on or buy it. The more you love the design, the more wear you'll get out of it. And when you're looking for a crop top, try one that is a basic color, fitted, and cut with a higher neck (that way you're really not showing too much skin and it will go with every high waisted skirt you own!). P.S. This American Apparel one I'm wearing is still online!

It looks like this midi skirt is only available in stores at the moment but have no fear because I've included a few similar options from Anthropologie below. Oh Anthro, you have so many most gorgeous skirts! Hey, a girl can day dream...

NYE Inspiration (From Your Closet!)

If you're like me and tearing apart your closet in search of the perfect New Year's outfit, here's a little inspiration for you. As you may know, I like to find old items in my closet and wear them in a new way. As much as I love dressing up in something brand new for New Year's Eve, my bank account doesn't always allow me to. Plus, "Should old clothes be forgot on Auld Lang Syne?" (Haha, I'm such a dork!)

This is a festive look I wore to a Christmas party that I think is just sparkly enough to ring in the new year! I took my 3 year old J.Crew sequin top and tucked it in with my plum high-waisted midi pencil skit with a fun high slit. Complete the look with a stack of different shimmery bracelets and ankle-strap pointed toe heels and you're ready to watch the ball drop!

There's No Place Like Home For The Holidays

by Laura Perkins

If you can't tell from the palm trees, I was back home in St.Petersburg/Clearwater Beach, FL for Christmas. :) It was so good to be with family and friends. And of course the warm weather wasn't so bad either!

Here are two festive outfits I wanted to share with you. The first one is a new take on plaid and can easily be worn into the new year. Take any plaid shirt and pair with your favorite black skinny jeans (I love these faux leather coated pants). Button up the collar and throw on a jeweled statement necklace. Finish the look with cute flats (I'm kind of obsessed with these pointy toe ankle strap shoes). This is a great outfit for the office or drinks with friends.

I was definitely in the holiday spirit for this second look that I wore for Christmas Eve. This bow sweater is two years old but I still think it's so perfect for the season. I paired this fitted knit with my black midi skirt (if only I had a tutu skirt...hey, a girl can dream!). Now I know I normally say to wear heels with midi skirts but I couldn't resist pairing this look with my cute red bow heels to "tie it all together" (see what I did there!?)

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! Wishing you many blessings and much love from my family to yours.

Looking for something to wear to your next Holiday Party but feel like you've exhausted all the red and green in your closet? Well here's a classic festive look that can take you from the office to a Christmas cocktail hour. I think midi skirts with sweaters and ankle strap heels are so chic for winter. And who says you can't wear your favorite white skirt in December?

Why it works: Black and white can be worn year round and the turtleneck definitely makes it appropriate for the season. (Turtlenecks are back ladies!!) Add a sparkly gold clutch, red lipstick and nail polish and you're ready to go!
