If you girls are like me, once September hits you're eager to start wearing the latest fall trends. The only problem is it's still 85 degrees outside. What the heck?! I mean, it's definitely still shorts weather. I'm solving the problem by making subtle changes to my wardrobe this week as I transition from summer to fall. I think this 90's grunge look is a good example (aka one of favorite trends this year). That's right ladies, 90's grunge is back in a big way! And that includes tying your flannel shirt around your waist. (Who is picturing Clueless right now!?) At first I thought I wasn't cool enough to pull this off and that I needed to be in a Nirvana cover band or something! My husband might have even laughed at me when I was trying to rock this last summer. But like wild fire, it's caught on and you're seeing this trend all over the place (and now my husband thinks it's pretty cute!) So for any of you who are hesitant, I encourage you to give it a try! You can do it!

The plaid adds a touch of fall while the tank top and shorts keeps you from being a sweaty mess before the cool weather hits. And bonus- the shirt around your waist is very flattering because it covers you up in all the right places. Opt for lighter distressed denim shorts (or jeans when the temperatures drop) to get the full 90's effect (if they're higher waisted, even better). Now I just really need some Birkenstocks! If only I'd held onto mine from middle school. I would like to point out, however, that this particular flannel shirt is a few years old (I'm sure you all have one of these in your closets, even if it doesn't fit...it doesn't matter because the shirt is around your waist!). So give yourself a high five if you just created a new look out of old clothes!

Last Days of Summer Style

I can't believe summer is coming to an end! Say it isn't so! With Labor Day Weekend approaching, I've been having some last flings with my summer wardrobe, like this sleeveless chambray top with high-waisted white lace shorts. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all about breaking the rules and wearing white after Labor Day so I'm not saying goodbye to these shorts just yet. Though I can't help but get excited about fall fashion and all the new trends to try this season! So if you're like me and wanting to get in some last wears of your summer outfits, try this look before the cool weather hits us. Styling tip: If you're going to tie a button down top and show a little skin, make sure you're wearing higher waisted bottoms that are not super short or tight. The crop top with the booty shorts look is a little too hoochy mama if you ask me! I so badly want to run and tell girls not to dress like that. It's all about balance.

By the way, I'm totally laughing at myself because I did not mean to be wearing head-to-toe Madewell (however I do love them!). I have exciting news to share though, for anyone who wanted this look for themselves, the chambray top and sandals are on sale right now! Woo hoo!!

Enjoy the long weekend everyone! xx

Kimonos have been such a fun trend this summer and are perfect to take you into fall. A really affordable way to create this look is to take one of your favorite scarves and wear it over your shoulders and arms like a shawl. When it's positioned this way, it gives the illusion of a kimono. If you're rocking a crop top or short shorts, it's also a great way to balance the amount of skin you're revealing. This boho chic style will definitely update your look. Plus I'm a big fan of wearing old things in your closet in a new way! This floral scarf is from Target and I'm completely obsessed! I get so many compliments when I wear it and I love to tell people this gem was only $14.99! Woo hoo! So either run out the door (or go online) and get one for yourself or find a vintage scarf hidden at the bottom of your drawer and give it new life!

A Search for the Best Boyfriend Jeans

by Laura Perkins

I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans. Around Matthew, I like to call them "husband" jeans! (I'm such a dork.) During my search, these were some of my favorites that I came across. Personally, I really love the distressed style but the ones you can still wear to work (ie. not the jeans with two big holes from your front pockets to your knees...yikes!). I just think boyfriend jeans are such a fun trend that you can dress up or down with heels or flats. And you can rock them year round so it's a pretty great investment. This might seem like an obvious style tip, but if you don't feel cute in the baggier fit, go for a slimmer cut with a slight slouch. And don't forget to roll up the bottoms to give you that fresh, relaxed look. The good news is there are so many amazing options out there (even DIY which is fab!) so find a pair that works with your personal style and budget.
